Zoey and Sassafras Books 1-6 Pack
Stealth Science
Why this book counts
- Life Science
- Environment & Ecology
- Human Body & Health
- Maker / Problem-Solving
- Story / Adventure
Across the first six Zoey and Sassafras adventures, Zoey helps magical animals by observing symptoms and habitats, recording evidence, asking questions, and testing possible solutions. Dragons, monsters, merhorses, caterflies, a stream creature, and a sick unicorn make mold, germs, plant needs, life cycles, and fair investigation part of solving each case.
The science inside
- Cells & Microbiology
- Ecosystems
- Plants & Botany
Your child will meet:
- A useful investigation records observations, asks a testable question, predicts an outcome, changes one factor, and compares results.
- Living things need suitable food, water, shelter, space, and environmental conditions, even though the series' magical species are fictional.
- Molds and other microbes grow under particular conditions and can affect living things, but an unknown growth cannot be identified safely by sight alone.
- Life cycles and habitat relationships can explain changes in an organism or the appearance of different forms over time.

Parent effort: Quick discussion
Follow the adventures of Zoey and her cat Sassafras with this shrink-wrapped paperback set of books 1-6 in the series.
With magical animals, science, mystery, and adventure -- the Zoey and Sassafras series has something for everyone! Easy-to-read language and illustrations on nearly every page make this series perfect for a wide range of ages.
Each story features a new magical animal with a problem that must be solved using science. There isn't a set formula for each book; Zoey sometimes needs to run experiments, while other times she needs to investigate a mystery, and yet other times she needs to do research. Zoey models how to keep a science journal through her handwritten entries in each story. Each story is complete with a glossary of the kid-friendly definitions for scientific terms used. The series highlights child-led inquiry science and the topics covered align with both Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.
