The Reader Who Hates Reading

For the kid who says they hate reading. They do not hate reading. They hate being handed a book that was chosen for a grade level instead of for them, and being asked to prove they read it. This shelf is the other approach: books that convert. Short chapters, real suspense, a joke by page two, a series to fall into, and one phonics workbook for the child whose wall is decoding, not interest.

How to use it: let your child pick. Put three of these on the table and walk away. The one they open is the one you buy next in that series. Read the first chapter aloud if they will let you, then stop mid-scene and go make dinner. Nobody gets a comprehension question. When they finish one, they get to choose again.
