Starting in January

For the family starting in the middle of the year. Most homeschool material assumes September. You are not in September. Your kid came home in November, or the school year fell apart in January, and you need one plan, one schedule, and one book per subject that does not care what month it is. That is this shelf: the parent's books that settle the panic first, then a history you can start at any chapter, then the one-book-per-grade safety net that covers the basics while you figure out the rest.

How to use it: read one of the parent's books this week, not all of them. Pick the Brain Quest workbook for your child's grade and do two pages a day; that is the floor, not the ceiling. Start the history from the beginning no matter what grade your child is in, because nobody remembers ancient history anyway and it is the best read-aloud on the shelf. Then use the loop schedule, where you pick up where you left off instead of falling behind a calendar, because a family that starts in January cannot afford a calendar.
