Late Elementary
Fourth and fifth grade, all in one place. This is the stretch where the work gets long enough to need a plan, and where a child either becomes a reader or decides they are not one. Both of those are on this shelf: the workbooks that carry the basics, and the novels and series that make a kid forget they are doing school.
How to use it: ninety minutes of real work, four days a week, and use the fifth for a project or a long read. Pick one math book and finish it. If math is the fight in your house, the problem is almost always one missing piece underneath, not a child who is bad at math.
Prefer a single shelf per grade? 4th, 5th. Or take five questions.

- Maker / Problem-Solving
Why it works: Ten imaginary matchups give readers repeated reasons to compare mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, crustaceans, and reconstructed dinosaurs. The prediction-and-reveal structure turns anatomy, behavior, habitat, and fossil inference into evidence that must be weighed rather than facts that can be skipped.
The Ada Lace Complete Adventures (Boxed Set): Ada Lace, on the Case; Ada Lace Sees Red; Ada Lace, Take Me to Y
- Engineering & Technology
- Maker / Problem-Solving
Why it works: Across six illustrated mysteries, Ada Lace uses science, mathematics, technology, and gadgets to find a dog, interpret art, crack a code, expose suspicious behavior, and solve other neighborhood problems. Each case gives a tool or test a narrative job, making technical reasoning part of friendship and detective adventure.
