First Grade Science – Online Course Access

  • Share

Your child is about to fall in love with science. Not with a textbook. Not with a worksheet packet. With a real course — 24 lessons, four complete units, video lessons taught by a real classroom teacher, original songs your child will sing in the back seat of the car, and animated celebration videos at the end of every single lesson.

This is First Grade Science the way science should be taught: starting with wonder, and ending with understanding.

Built by a real teacher. Designed for your child.

This course was created by Mr. Somers — a middle school teacher who has spent years in real classrooms with real kids. Every lesson follows the way children actually learn: one big idea at a time, with multiple ways to reach it, and something memorable to take away when it's done.

What your child will learn

Unit 1 — Living and Non-Living Things

Your child learns to think like a scientist. What makes something alive? Why does a puppy need dinner but a toy truck doesn't? Six lessons guide your child from first observations through the four characteristics of living things, basic needs, how living things respond to their environment, and how organisms reproduce.

Lessons: Living and Non-Living Things · What Living Things Need · How Living Things Grow · Living Things Respond · Living Things Make More Living Things · Unit Review: Is It Alive?

Unit 2 — Plants

From roots in the soil to seeds in the fruit, your child explores every part of a plant and why it matters. The photosynthesis lesson alone is worth the price — it turns a complex process into something a six-year-old can explain at the dinner table.

Lessons: Parts of a Plant · What Plants Need to Grow · Plant Life Cycles · Leaves and Photosynthesis · Flowers, Seeds, and Fruit · Unit Review: Plants Are Amazing

Unit 3 — Animals

What makes something an animal? Where do animals live, and why? How do baby animals look like their parents — but not exactly? Your child will sort, compare, and explore the animal kingdom from habitats to adaptations.

Lessons: What Makes an Animal? · What Animals Need · Animal Habitats · Baby Animals and Their Parents · How Animals Survive · Unit Review: Animal Kingdom

Unit 4 — Earth and Sky

The biggest unit saves the biggest questions: Why do we have day and night? What are the four seasons and why do they repeat? What are rocks, soil, and water — and why does the Earth need us to care for it?

Lessons: The Sun, Moon, and Stars · Day and Night · Weather and Seasons · Rocks, Soil, and Water · Taking Care of Earth · Unit Review: Our Amazing Earth
